A typical math block includes a whole group lesson that is taught using Everyday Math curriculum. We use a 3-Part Lesson format that includes a launch, explore, summary. During a launch students are introduced to the daily objective and given directions to the work they will explore. Explore time is where students are practicing strategies, experimenting with strategies, and making discoveries about math. The summary is when students are sharing out their learning for the day and demonstrating mastery of the day’s objective.
During the math block students are given independent/station time to practice skills at their own level. Teachers spend this time pulling small groups, working one-on-one with students and assessing individual levels.
